Hard-throwing left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman signed with the Boston Red Sox, according to multiple news reports.
Chapman, who joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024 on a one-year deal, seemed to confirm the news, posting to social media platform X in a Red Sox cap.
Per ESPN, Chapman’s deal with Boston is for one year and worth $10.75 million, pending the results of a physical.
He made $10.5 million with the Pirates.

Chapman was a key member of the Pirates bullpen last season, going 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA over 68 games and 61 2/3 innings.
The seven-time All-Star, who turns 37 in February, primarily was utilized as a back-end reliever with the Pirates, serving as set-up man to David Bednar at times while also stepping into the closer’s role himself, recording 14 saves.
Chapman’s 335 career saves rank 16th in MLB history and third among active players.
Over the summer, Chapman recorded his 1,197th career strikeout, passing Billy Wagner for the most all-time by a left-handed reliever.
Last year with the Pirates marked Chapman’s 15th in the big leagues, and on multiple occasions he flashed the arm strength that has defined his career, touching 104.7 mph with his sinker.
