Upheaval in the coaching ranks has done nothing to slow the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

In fact, it may be having the opposite effect.

Sean Suber, Augi Williams and Jackson Walti scored as the Hounds defeated Monterey Bay FC, 3-0, on Saturday night in California. The Hounds have won four of their last five, including both games since head coach Bob Lilley was placed on administrative leave on Oct. 10, replaced by acting coach Rob Vincent.

The Hounds (12-10-7) moved into fourth place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings, a spot that would earn them a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Monterey Bay (7-15-7) has won once in its last 18 games.

Suber, who scored his first goal of the season last Saturday against Indy Eleven, struck first in the 27th minute. A nifty sequence of three consecutive passes — from Williams to Danny Griffin to Guillaume Vacter to Suber — left the Hounds defender alone at the far post for a goal.

Williams doubled the lead in the 73rd minute when he took a long diagonal ball from Walti and blasted a shot past Monterey Bay goalkeeper Nico Campuzano, a former Pitt standout.

Walti added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when he took a pass at the top of the 18, faked a shot to move a defender out of position, and buried a shot to make it 3-0.

The Hounds will close out the regular season with a home game against against Phoenix Rising FC next Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
