Riverhounds rally for draw in Tulsa
After three halves of offensive futility against FC Tulsa in the span of four days, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds finally broke out Saturday night.
It was enough to earn them a draw.
Danny Griffin and Kazaiah Sterling scored second-half goals to propel the Riverhounds to a 2-2 draw in Tulsa. When these teams met Tuesday in a US Open Cup match, Tulsa won, 1-0.
The Riverhounds (3-3-3) are 3-0-3 in their last six USL Championship matches.
The Hounds fell behind 1-0 when Phillip Goodrum converted a penalty in the 12th minute. It was technically considered an own goal because Hounds goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotto got a hand on the shot, which deflected into the post and off Perrotto before crossing the goal line.
FC Tulsa (2-2-4) doubled its lead on a goal by Boubacar Diallo in the 33rd minute.
The comeback began when Junior Etou was fouled in the penalty area in the 63rd minute. Griffin buried the penalty inside the right post to make it 2-1.
Sterling found the equalizer in the 86th minute, cleaning up the rebound of a Robbie Mertz shot to make it 2-2.
The Hounds will return home to face North Carolina FC next Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
