Albert Dikwa of the Riverhounds celebrates his goal against Detroit City FC on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

A successful penalty kick by Maxi Rodriguez in the 73rd minute prevented the Pittsburgh Riverhounds from picking up their third consecutive victory, but they remained unbeaten on the season in a 1-1 draw at Detroit City FC on Saturday afternoon.

Detroit City (1-1-1) was awarded a penalty after a foul was assessed to the Riverhounds (2-0-1) for contact in the box.

Rodriguez converted the penalty with a low shot inside the left post.

The Riverhounds’ goal came in the 18th minute when Albert Dikwa scored from close range after Detroit City failed to clear Danny Griffin’s corner kick.

It was Dikwa’s second goal of the season.

The Riverhounds had a couple chances to break the tie late.

Luis Argudo, who made his debut as a sub after signing with the team Thursday, narrowly missed with a shot over the top of the net.

They also had a free kick and a corner during stoppage time, but neither amounted to a chance on goal.

Shane Weidt had a strong game on the backline for the Riverhounds with a team-best five interceptions and four clearances.

The Riverhounds return home to Highmark Stadium to play Loudoun United FC at 7 p.m. Saturday.
