Riverhounds settle for scoreless draw at Oakland, run unbeaten streak to 8
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds extended their unbeaten streak to eight straight USL Championship games Saturday night.
Unfortunately for the Riverhounds, their opponents extended their unbeaten streak to four games as well.
The Riverhounds played to a scoreless draw with Oakland Roots SC, ending a streak of five straight league wins for Pittsburgh (7-2-6). Oakland (6-4-4) is 2-0-2 in its last four games.
The most notable development for the Riverhounds was goalkeeper Luis Zamudio’s debut with the team.
He made three saves to keep a clean sheet one day after he was loaned to the Hounds by DC United of MLS. Zamudio, 24, who had seven shutouts for Loudoun FC of the USL Championship last season, had yet to play for DC United this season.
Zamudio is expected to fill in for Riverhounds No. 1 goakeeper Jahmali Waite, who is playing for the Jamaican national team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup beginning later this month.
Zamudio’s best stop came in the 75th minute when he made a lunging save on a shot by Treyvone Reid from the top of the box after a scramble off a free kick.
The Riverhounds had a chance at a dramatic victory with about three minutes left when Tola Showunmi tried a backheel shot from the right post, but Oakland goalkeeper Paul Blanchette was up to the task.
The Riverhounds will begin a three-game homestand with the team’s first match against San Diego Loyal SC at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
