Riverhounds to host MLS' New York City FC in U.S. Open Cup

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will welcome another MLS opponent to Highmark Stadium next month.

The Hounds will host New York City FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 on May 6 or 7.

This will be the first matchup between the teams.

The Riverhounds, who were Open Cup quarterfinalists in 2001 and ‘23, played host to MLS teams twice at Highmark Stadium. They beat Columbus Crew, 1-0, in 2023, and lost in extra time to D.C. United, 3-1, in 2015.

Tickets will be availableat 10 a.m. Tuesday through Ticketmaster and the Highmark Stadium Box Office. Season ticket holders will be invoiced and can lock in their seats by Sunday.

The Hounds defeated Columbus Crew 2 of MLS Next Pro, 1-0, on Tuesday to reach the Round of 32. The winner of the Round of 32 match will advance to face the winner between the Philadelphia Union and Indy Eleven.
