Riverhounds win at Tampa for 4th straight road victory
Getting goals from Danny Griffin and Russell Cicerone, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds scored a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday night, recording their first victory over the Florida club since 2017 and their first-ever win in St. Petersburg.
The Riverhounds (4-3-2) ran their road winning streak to four games.
Griffin scored on the counter-attack to give the Riverhounds a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. He sent a pass to Cicerone on the left wing, then received a return pass and deposited it inside the right post.
Cicerone scored to make it 2-0 in the 55th minute, taking a perfect through ball from Kenardo Forbes, splitting a pair of defenders and finding the back of the net. It was his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Sebastian Guenzatti scored in stoppage time to make it a one-goal game, but Tampa Bay couldn’t find the equalizer.
The Riverhounds return home to host New York Red Bulls II at 7 p.m. Friday.
