Riveters' Abi Hugh named Great Forest Player of the Year
Abi Hugh helped guide Pittsburgh Riveters SC to the USL W League playoffs in the team’s inaugural season and was recognized for her efforts Wednesday.
Hugh, a defender/midfielder, was named the Great Forest Division Player of the Year.
The Huntington, W.Va. native who played at Marshall and N.C. State, started 10 of 11 matches and played the third-most minutes on the team.
Of her 10 starts, four were at left back, three were at center back, two were as a defensive midfielder and one was as an attacking midfielder.
She had one assist, setting up a goal in a 3-1 win at Steel City FC.
After the season, she signed a professional contract with Apollon Ladies FC in Limassol, Cyprus, which plays in the Cypriot First Division in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The Riveters won the Great Forest Division and were among the 16 teams to qualify for the playoffs.
