Penguins general manager Ron Hextall previously held the same position with the Philadelphia Flyers for parts of five seasons.

In parts of eight seasons as a general manager of either the Philadelphia Flyers or Pittsburgh Penguins, Ron Hextall has made seven deals at a trade deadline.

Here is a look at all of them.

March 2, 2015

Flyers: Defenseman Radko Gudas, a 2015 first-round pick, a 2015 third-round pick

Tampa Bay Lightning: Defenseman Braydon Coburn

Gudas spent parts of four seasons with the Flyers. A physical defender, he helped that team reach the postseason on two occasions, each of which ended with first-round defeats.

March 1, 2017

Flyers: Forward Valtteri Filppula, a 2017 fourth-round pick, a 2017 seventh-round pick

Lightning: Defenseman Mark Streit

A versatile forward with ample experience, Filppula spent parts of two seasons with the Flyers and helped them reach the 2018 postseason, where they were eliminated by the Penguins in the first round.

Feb. 19, 2018

Flyers: Goaltender Petr Mrazek

Detroit Red Wings: A 2018 fourth-round pick, a 2019 third-round pick (both conditional)

Mrazek was a reliable backup who the Flyers acquired as a rental to provide depth. After appearing in 17 games and helping the Flyers qualify for the postseason, he left in the ensuing offseason, joining the Carolina Hurricanes as an unrestricted free agent.

April 11, 2021

Penguins: Forward Jeff Carter

Los Angeles Kings: A 2022 third-round pick (conditional) and a 2023 fourth-round pick

Carter immediately became the Penguins’ second-line center in the absence of Evgeni Malkin, sidelined by a knee injury. In a first-round postseason loss to the New York Islanders, Carter led the team with four goals and had five points in six games. Since then, Carter primarily has served as the Penguins’ third-line center. After a productive 2019-20 campaign, his base offensive figures have waned this season.

March 21, 2022

Penguins: Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu

Winnipeg Jets: A 2017 seventh-round pick (conditional)

On long-term injured reserve at the time of the transaction, Beaulieu never played for the Penguins. He was acquired strictly to serve as an extra depth defenseman in the event of a lengthy postseason run. With the Penguins being eliminated in the first round, he never was in position to appear in a contest.

March 21, 2022

Penguins: Forward Rickard Rakell

Anaheim Ducks: Forwards Zach Aston-Reese, Dominik Simon, goaltender Calle Clang, a 2022 second-round pick

Rakell almost immediately was inserted into the Penguins’ group of top-six forwards and has found chemistry playing with either Malkin or Sidney Crosby. After a head injury limited him to two games in the postseason, he re-signed with the Penguins, agreeing to a six-year contract. Appearing in all 60 games this season, he is the Penguins’ fourth-leading scorer with 41 points (21 goals, 20 assists).

March 1, 2023

Penguins: Forward Mikael Granlund

Predators: A 2023 second-round pick

Granlund is slated to debut with the Penguins on the third line in Thursday’s road game against the Lightning.
