Russell Cicerone scores twice as Riverhounds' hot streak continues
Russell Cicerone scored a pair of goals, one in each half, and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds kept up their torrid summer pace with a 2-0 road win over the Indy Eleven on Saturday night,
The Riverhounds (13-6-4) are 6-0-1 since the beginning of July and are in fourth place in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference. Indy (6-12-4) is winless in its last 10 games.
The Riverhounds took the lead about 13 minutes in when Dani Rovira made a run up the left side and found Cicerone streaking toward the goal for a header. It gave Ciccerone double-digit goals for the second consecutive season.
The Riverhounds padded their lead in the 52nd minute. In a nifty display of passing, the Riverhounds moved the ball up the right side with Marc Ybarra sliding a pass for Albert Dikwa behind the defense, and Dikwa finding Cicerone in stride for a clean finish.
Ybarra was sent off for a second yellow card in the 54th minute, but the Riverhounds and Jahmali Waite kept a clean sheet, giving the goalkeeper his second straight shutout.
The Riverhounds will host third-place Memphis at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Highmark Stadium.
