After proving its worth as the top team in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, Saint Vincent softball is set for the next step.

The Bearcats (29-14), who earned an automatic bid by winning their second PAC title, will open the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday against host DePauw (31-12) in Greencastle, Ind.

DePauw just won its third straight North Coast Athletic Conference title.

Other teams playing at Saint Vincent’s site include Maryville (28-9) and Trine (30-6).

The regional round will be completed Sunday. Sixteen regional winners will move on to the Super Regional, a best-of-three round, May 17-18.
