Basketball guru Pete Strobl, who founded The Scoring Factory training business in Pittsburgh, is headed overseas to coach the professional game.

Strobl, 41, was named head coach of Basketball Löwen Braunschweig, which played in the highest level of German basketball. He was an assistant for Basketball Bundesliga of Ratiopharm Ulm for the last three seasons.

“It was important to us that the new head coach fit in with us - both in terms of mentality, game philosophy and skills. For example, Pete has demonstrated in the past that he is a very dedicated young coach who has particular strengths in advancing players to a high level and has excellent communication skills,” said Löwen Managing Director Sebastian Schmidt.

A native of Long Beach Calif., Strobl played at Niagara before a nine-year professional career took him to Germany, Austria, France, Ireland, Switzerland, and Iceland.

Stobl, who wrote the book, “Backspin,” has experience coaching in the high-level EuroCup. He founded The Scoring Factory in 2009.

“The club has a clear profile, is on the rise and we fit perfectly together,” Strobl said. “Sebastian and I are already working hard on the squad plans. We want to inspire our fans next year with fast, attractive and athletic basketball, where the team will be there at all times. Next year, our venue should be the loudest in the league. We give everything.”

@PeteStrobl ist unser neuer Headcoach und unterschrieb einen 2-Jahresvertrag mit Option auf ein weiteres Jahr! "Herzlich Willkommen" bei den Löwen & ganz, ganz viel Erfolg, Pete! ??https://t.co/RJYaSqvZax
