Before this week, the Seton Hill baseball team struggled offensively.
Things sure have changed at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at West Chester.
After pounding out 19 hits against Slippery Rock on Thursday, the Griffins added 21 hits on Friday and routed West Chester, 18-7.
Omar Ward (The Kiski School) hadn’t driven in a run all season but made up for his rough season against West Chester. He drove in nine runs, clubbing a grand slam in the second inning and a three-run homer in the third.
Max Mandler had a three-run homer in a seven-run second inning, and Braden Durham hit a solo blast.
Isaiah DiAndreth (Hempfield) went 5-for-5, including a double, with two runs scored and two RBIs. Neal McDermott (Greensburg Central Catholic) had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Owen Sabol (Norwin) had two hits and scored three runs.
The Griffins (33-17-1) and West Chester were supposed to play another game Friday, but a lengthy lightning delay during the first game forced officials to play Game 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Softball suspended
Heavy rains and lightning forced officials to suspended Friday’s softball Atlantic Super Regional between Seton Hill and Kutztown until 9 a.m. Saturday.
Seton Hill (40-10) leads the best-of-3 series 1-0 and was ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning when severe weather stopped play.
The Griffins scored all four runs in the first inning and chased starting pitcher Amber Brugger in the first. Game 1 starter Sarah Harvey is in the circle for Kutztown.
Morgan Ryan (Hempfield) singled home one run, and Brooklyn Fukushima and Grace Paredes had RBI doubles.
Kutztown (40-13) chased Seton Hill starting pitcher Chloe Elliott in the third inning. She was replaced by Lauren Dellett.
