Seton Hill baseball has an impressive record this season, but one of the Griffins’ wins was taken off the board Monday.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced that Mercyhurst played Saturday’s game against Seton Hill under protest and the Lakers’ objection to a reversed call was upheld by the league office.
During the bottom of the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader at Seton Hill, the Griffins (19-2, 11-2 PSAC West) were batting with one out. They trailed the Lakers (20-11, 11-8), 1-0.
Pitcher Brett Whiteman delivered a 3-2 pitch to Griffins’ senior Tyler Peterson, who took the low pitch. In the meantime, Jack Oberdorf attempted to steal second. A third strike was called and the home plate umpire then charged Peterson with interference as the catcher attempted to throw to second.
Peterson appeared stunned as he left the batter’s box. The call also meant Oberdorf also was out and the inning ended abruptly.

After the umpires conferred, the strike call was switched to a ball, Peterson was awarded first base and Oberdorf stayed at second — and later scored.
The Griffins overcame deficits of 1-0 and 4-2 to win, 6-4.
If the game is made up at a later date, it will resume in the third inning.
