Brashear’s Tamara Humphries (front) wrestles Canon-McMillan’s Marlee Solomon wrestles during the semifinals of the PIAA wrestling tournament Friday, March 7, 2025, at Giant Center in Hershey.

When Shaquille O’Neal discovered Tamara Humphries’ wrestling page online and asked how he could support her, she responded with one request: a new car.

The Pitt Johnstown freshman wrestler known as “Firefly” is a Brashear High School alumna and spoke out on social media that she’s struggled to attend wrestling events due to not having her own vehicle.

“After struggling to get to practice, not making tournaments due to the distance, Ubers and Lyfts back and forth from college, I was blessed with a Mitsubishi Outlander 2025 from the one and only SHAQUILLE O’NEAL,” she wrote in an Instagram post with her new jet-black car.

Humphries is majoring in criminal justice at Pitt Johnstown, and was a three-year letter-winner at Brashear in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood — where she had a 44-21 overall career, according to the women’s wrestling page on Pitt’s website.

Humphries was also three-time Pennsylvania state qualifier and earned a third-place finish last winter.

In a video collaboration with Effortless Motors in Riverside, Calif., which helped secure the car and deliver it, the 7-foot-1 NBA legend is shown telling Humphries about the new car.

Humphries made a final post about the car, imparting inspiration to her followers.

“If you know me or want to know me, just know that this is possible for you as well. There is nothing special or different about me other than hard work — that you can do, too. Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity and I’m so beyond humbled by this … If nobody believes in you, I do.”
