Sidney Crosby ties former Penguins teammate as he ascends NHL's all-time goal-scoring list
The NHL’s all-time goal-scoring list has received plenty of publicity as the Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin chases Wayne Gretzky for the top spot.
While Ovechkin’s pace has slowed with just eight goals in 2023-24 and 830 for his career, he still could catch the Great One (894 goals) over the next few seasons.
Another current star continues to ascend the all-time goals list and has made quite a jump this season.
Penguins center Sidney Crosby tied former teammate and assistant coach Mark Recchi for 21st on the list with his 27th goal of the season in Monday’s 5-2 loss to the Coyotes in Arizona.
Crosby and Recchi, who spent parts of seven seasons with the Penguins, each have 577 career goals.

Crosby has passed seven players on the all-time list this season: Johnny Bucyk (556), Guy Lafleur (560), Mike Modano (561), Mats Sundin (564), Joe Nieuwendyk (564), Patrick Marleau (566) and Mike Bossy (573).
Next on the list is Jari Kurri, who scored 601 goals from 1989-98.
From there, Dino Ciccarelli (608), Bobby Hull (610), Joe Sakic (625), Jarome Iginla (625) and Dave Andreychuk (640) await to crack the top 15.
Crosby, who has a five-game scoring streak with five goals and two assists in that span, is on pace for 50 goals this season. His 21 assists give him 48 points this season and 1,550 for his career, which is 12th on the all-time list. Gretzky also leads that group with 2,857.
