Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi looks on during the first day of practice Aug. 2, 2023 at UPMC Rooney Sports Performance Complex.

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi is in the midst of preparations for the season opener Sept. 2, but the future beyond 2023 got a little brighter Tuesday when four-star defensive end Sincere Edwards announced his verbal commitment to the Panthers.

Edwards (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) is Pitt’s fourth four-star prospect from the class of 2024, the most since Narduzzi’s first full recruiting class in 2016 when Damar Hamlin, Amir Watts, George Hill, Kaezon Pugh and Ruben Flowers committed.

Edwards is the 47th-ranked overall prospect in Florida and the 19th strong-side defensive end in the nation, according to Rivals.com.

Pitt hopes Edwards can transfer his pass-rushing skills at Wekiva (Fla.) High School to the college level. He recorded 27 tackles for a loss, including 16 sacks, and two fumble recoveries as a junior last season, according to Rivals.

He joins Zachary Crothers of Hollywood, Fla., as Pitt’s two defensive ends in the class. Pitt’s 22-man class is ranked 28th in the nation and sixth in the ACC by Rivals.

Edwards chose Pitt over his other finalists — Penn State, Maryland, South Florida and Central Florida — but he has scholarship offers from 25 schools. He was verbally committed to UCF for more than 10 months before de-committing in June.
