Saint Vincent had a good week. The proof is in the accolades.

A half-dozen Bearcats athletes from four sports were recognized by the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Two baseball players and two from the softball team were honored.

Junior Jimmy Malone was named PAC Pitcher of the Week. He allowed seven hits in a 3-0 victory over Chatham. He improved to 3-0 with a 2.96 ERA for the season. Freshman teammate Casey Jones also was lauded for his recent efforts as he was named PAC Rookie of the Week. Jones struck out all three hitters he faced in an 8-3 win over Chatham, and gave up two earned runs and struck out seven in a 20-3 victory over Chatham. Jones is 4-0 and is tied for the league lead in strikeouts with 29.

Sophomore softball player Alona Sleith, meantime, picked up PAC Hitter of the Week honors as she led the Bearcats to five wins. The Yough graduate went 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs in a 9-1 win over La Roche. During an eight-game stretch, she went 11 for 25 with seven runs and four RBIs.

She leads the PAC in hits, runs, doubles and RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Celia Knappenberger, meantime, was named PAC Pitcher of the Week after she registered two wins and a save. She allowed six earned runs across 25 innings and struck out 21. Knappenberger threw a five-hit shutout and fanned eight in a 3-0 victory against Juniata.

Her 40 Ks and 1.49 ERA are tops in the PAC.

PAC Player of the Week honors for men’s golf went to Saint Vincent senior Nate Yackovich, who shot 71 to win the Carnegie Mellon Spring Invitational. And in men’s tennis, senior Ryan Hartz was named player of the week after winning twice, at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, in the Bearcats’ 8-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg. Hartz and Jon Oskin are 4-1 playing in that spot this season.
