Starting CB Steve Nelson among inactives for Steelers game against Washington
Cornerback Steve Nelson is among six players the Pittsburgh Steelers placed on the inactive list Monday for their game against Washington.
Nelson will miss just the second game in his two seasons with the Steelers. He had an MRI taken on his knee last week and did not practice in advance of the game Monday at Heinz Field. Nelson sustained the injury last Wednesday in the Steelers’ 19-14 victory against the Baltimore Ravens that improved their record to 11-0.
Cam Sutton, who typically lines up in the nickel and dime formations as an inside cornerback, is expected to start on the outside in place of Nelson. Justin Layne also could see playing time against Washington.
Nelson has two interceptions, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 11 games.
Also inactive for the Steelers are third quarterback Joshua Dobbs, kicker Chris Boswell, defensive lineman Carlos Davis, tackle Derwin Gray and tight end Kevin Rader.
With Gray on the inactives list, Anthony Coyle, activated from the practice squad earlier Monday, is the extra offensive lineman on the game day roster.
