Shown while going through dills at minicamp in June, Pittsburgh Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo returned to practice Wednesday. Seumalo had not practiced since suffering a pectoral injury four weeks ago.

Veteran starting left guard Isaac Seumalo practiced for the first time during the regular season for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, providing hope he could make his 2024 debut Sunday.

Seumalo suffered a pectoral injury after the preseason ended and had not practiced or played since. Coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Seumalo would test his injury Wednesday, and the Steelers would proceed through the week from there.

On the league-mandated injury report for Wednesday, Seumalo was listed as a limited practice participant.

Spencer Anderson has started the Steelers’ first three games in Seumalo’s stead, and during this past week’s win against the Los Angeles Chargers he was spelled at times by rookie Mason McCormick.

Not practicing Wednesday for injury reasons were reserve tight end MyCole Pruitt (knee), outside linebacker Alex Highsmith (groin) and running back Jaylen Warren (knee). Pruitt is expected to miss a second consecutive game when the Steelers face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, and Highsmith also won’t play.

Warren’s status is not yet known. The Steelers will practice twice more before their final official status report comes out Friday. The Steelers’ other top running back, Najee Harris, did not practice Wednesday, but the team listed the reason as “not injury related, rest.”

Also under that designation — but listed as participating on a limited basis — were a host of veterans: outside linebacker T.J. Watt, cornerback Donte Jackson and defensive linemen Cam Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi.

Rookie receiver Roman Wilson remains on the injury report despite getting cleared at the end of last week from an ankle injury suffered early in training camp. Wilson practiced fully Wednesday, as did veteran receiver Van Jefferson. Jefferson missed a large portion of Sunday’s win after being poked in the eye.

A new addition to the injury report was starting safety DeShon Elliott, who was listed as limited Wednesday because of a quadriceps injury.

For the ninth consecutive practice subjected to a status report dating to Sept. 5, starting quarterback Russell Wilson was regarded as limited because of his calf injury. Tomlin said the team is planning for Justin Fields to make his fourth consecutive start.
