INDIANAPOLIS — Despite not practicing all week, Pittsburgh Steelers starting left guard Isaac Seumalo was active and in uniform for Saturday’s game at the Indianapolis Colts.
Seumalo is nursing a shoulder injury suffered during a loss to the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago. He did not play in the second half of that game but did four days later during a home loss against the New England Patriots. As an eight-year veteran, Seumalo regularly is given days off from practice regardless of his injury status.
Seumalo was classified as questionable on the Steelers’ status report released Thursday.
Seumalo’s inclusion onto the gameday active list meant that quarterback Kenny Pickett was the only player on the 53-man active roster who missed Saturday’s game because of injury. Pickett sat out a second consecutive outing because of an ankle injury. Starting outside linebackers T.J Watt and Alex Highsmith progressed through NFL concussion protocol throughout the week and played in Indianapolis.
The Steelers’ healthy scratches were offensive lineman Dylan Cook, running back Anthony McFarland, cornerback Darius Rush, inside linebacker Blake Martinez and defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk.
After a one-game stint as an inactive, second-year defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal again “earned a hat” for Saturday’s game. He took the spot of Loudermilk, who was inactive for the first time this season.
An eight-year veteran who came out of retirement earlier this year, Martinez was designated an inactive a week after he made his Steelers’ debut in the starting lineup for the New England game. Mykal Walker and Mark Robinson were the lone inside linebackers available to play in support of Elandon Roberts at that position.
After playing just six defensive snaps in the Steelers’ prior game, Robinson started Saturday against the Colts.
It had been announced Friday that outside linebacker Kyron Johnson would be elevated from the practice squad for Saturday’s game to serve a special-teams role.
