Shown in a 1973 photo, Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive lineman L.C. Greenwood has advanced to the semifinal round of voting among Seniors candidates for the 2026 induction class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In regards to one group eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Pittsburgh Steelers legend L.C. Greenwood has made the cut from 182 all the way down to nine.

A charter member of the original “Steel Curtain” defensive line that fronted one of the greatest defenses in NFL history, Greenwood was announced Wednesday as one of nine semifinalists from the “Seniors” category of nominees for the 2026 induction class.

Greenwood was named to the Pro Bowl roster six times and first-team AP NFL All Pro twice over his 13 seasons with the Steelers. He was part of four Super Bowl-winning teams as well as named to the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team and the Steelers’ Hall of Honor.

Greenwood, who died in 2013 at the age of 67, is vying to become the 11th player from the 1970s Super Steelers to gain Hall of Fame induction. Fellow Steel Curtain d-lineman Joe Greene was enshrined in Canton in 1987.

The Seniors category for consideration has been led by nine-member committee appointed by the Hall of Fame to evaluate players who last appeared in a game before the year 2000. The voting process began with 182 names and will be whittled to three finalists next week.

Greenwood joins Ken Anderson, Roger Craig, Henry Ellard, Joe Jacoby, Eddie Meador, Stanley Morgan, Steve Tasker and Otis Taylor as Seniors semifinalists.

The 2026 enshrinement class will be announced the week of the Super Bowl in February.
