Steelers A to Z: Calvin Anderson capable of playing multiple spots on offensive line
Editor’s note: From now until reporting day to training camp at Saint Vincent College, TribLive is running through the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 90-man roster, looking at each player and assessing his outlook for the 2025 season. The breakdown will run in alphabetical order with at least two players each day between June 12 and July 23. Contract data courtesy spotrac.com.
OT Calvin Anderson
Experience/age: 6th season, 29 years old
Contract status: $1.58 million cap hit in 2025, signed through 2026
The past: The Steelers became Anderson’s third team in as many seasons when he joined them in September after being released by the New England Patriots in training camp. He appeared in four games with the Steelers, and he played 29 snaps at left tackle in place of an injured Dan Moore Jr. in the wild-card loss at Baltimore.
Anderson appeared in five games with New England in 2023, starting two, and he has started 14 of 50 games in his five NFL seasons. Anderson spent three seasons in Denver after spending time on the Patriots’ and New York Jets’ rosters.
2025 outlook: The Steelers thought enough of Anderson to bring him back as the swing tackle for the 2025 season. He will back up Broderick Jones on the left side and Troy Fautanu on the right. Anderson signed a two-year, $4 million deal in April, less than a month after he declared free agency.
Anderson, who measures 6-foot-5, 305 pounds, could face competition in training camp, but the Steelers like having a veteran backup who is capable of playing both tackle positions. The Steelers gave him an $830,000 signing bonus, which makes it unlikely he will be a roster casualty.
