Editor’s note: From now until reporting day to training camp at Saint Vincent College, TribLive is running through the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 90-man roster, looking at each player and assessing his outlook for the 2025 season. The breakdown will run in alphabetical order with at least two players each day between June 12 and July 23. Contract data courtesy spotrac.com.

OLB JEREMIAH MOON

Experience/age: Third season, turns 27 in August

Contract status: $1.03 million cap hit if he makes the team, will be a restricted free agent in 2026

The past: In his first season with the Steelers, Moon appeared in 13 games, a career high, and made one start in place of an injured Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig at Las Vegas. He played every game after spending the first four weeks on injured reserve because of an ankle injury that he sustained in the preseason.

Moon introduced himself to Steeler Nation that October night in Las Vegas, but not on defense. Moon blocked a punt early in the third quarter that gave the Steelers possession at the Raiders’ 9 and set up a field goal.

Moon made most of his impact on special teams, factoring in seven tackles. He played 63% of all special teams snaps compared to 13% on defense.

Moon, a 6-foot-5, 247-pound edge rusher from Florida, joined the Steelers last offseason when he was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens. He spent the 2022 season on the Ravens’ practice squad and appeared in nine games with Baltimore in 2023.

2025 outlook: Moon was not tendered a contract as an exclusive rights free agent, but the Steelers brought him back in free agency on a one-year contract. Both starters and top backup Herbig return for the 2025 season, and the Steelers added Malik Harrison in free agency and Jack Sawyer in the draft, making Moon’s path to a roster spot more difficult.

For Moon to stick on the 53-man roster for another year, he’ll have to continue to make contributions on special teams.
