Editor’s note: From now until reporting day to training camp at Saint Vincent College, TribLive is running through the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 90-man roster, looking at each player and assessing his outlook for the 2025 season. The breakdown will run in alphabetical order with at least two players each day between June 12 and July 23. Contract data courtesy spotrac.com.

PK CHRIS BOSWELL

Experience/age: 11th season, 34 years old

Contract status: $4.72 million cap hit, signed through 2026

The past: A case could be made that Boswell was the actual team MVP last season when he earned first-team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time. Boswell led the NFL in scoring with 158 points, making 41 of 44 field goal attempts and 35 extra points. Two of his three misses were from 50 yards and beyond.

Boswell’s 41 field goals were the most since David Akers kicked 44 in 2011, and he led all kickers with a 93.2 conversion percentage (minimum 35 attempts). He was recognized as the AFC’s special teams player of the month in September and October. Previously, he had never topped 135 points in a season.

For his career, Boswell has made 88% of his field goal tries, a rate that ranks second among kickers (minimum 300 attempts) since 2015.

2025 outlook: The Steelers would be content with more of the same from Boswell, although they would prefer to score more touchdowns and fewer field goals. Boswell, though, showed that if the Steelers can get the ball to the opposing 40, he is a threat to connect from that range.

The only competition in camp is former Pitt kicker Ben Sauls, who in reality is auditioning for 31 other teams, much the way Matthew Wright did last season. Boswell carries the 12th-highest cap hit on the team, and he could be viewed as underpaid given the way he performed last year.
