Steelers activate defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, bring back former linebacker
A day after defensive lineman Chris Wormley was placed on the reserve/covid list, the Pittsburgh Steelers got a member of his position group back on the active roster.
Defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs was activated from the reserve/covid list Saturday, making him eligible to play Monday night when the Steelers play the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field.
Safety Karl Joseph, who also was on the reserve/covid list, was activated and restored to the practice squad.
With inside linebackers Devin Bush and Joe Schobert on the reserve/covid list, the Steelers signed linebacker Tegray Scales off the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Scales, 25, played in four games with the Steelers in 2020 but was cut midway through training camp this year. He spent a week with the Browns in training camp and was added to Cincinnati’s practice squad Dec. 21.
Bush missed the Steelers’ game at Kansas City because of covid. He could be activated before the game Monday. Schobert, though, was placed on the reserve/covid list Friday and is unlikely to return this week even with the NFL’s relaxed return-to-play covid policies.
Other players still on the reserve/covid list are right tackle Zach Banner, running back Anthony McFarland and cornerback Arthur Maulet.
