Steelers activate Tyson Alualu off PUP list, sign OLB Ron’Dell Carter
The Pittsburgh Steelers activated veteran defensive lineman Tyson Alualu off the physically unable to perform list and signed outside linebacker Ron’Dell Carter on Monday.
The Steelers’ oldest player at 35, Alualu opened camp on the PUP list because of swelling in a knee attributed to offseason training. A presumed starter, Alualu missed all but six quarters of last season after he suffered a broken ankle during Week 2.
Carter has appeared in four regular-season games over the past two seasons since going undrafted out of James Madison in 2020. He has one NFL tackle among 85 snaps played (defense and special teams) for the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
Carter, 25, had 19½ sacks over his final two college seasons. The Steelers are in search of reliable depth at backup outside linebacker beyond the starting duo of reigning NFL defensive player of the year T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.
Rookie outside linebacker T.D. Moultry, who played at Auburn, was waived/injured. One of the undrafted free agents signed immediately after the draft’s conclusion, Moutry suffered an injury early in training camp.
