Six days before the start of the regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday announced a trio of signings that complete their 16-player practice squad in advance of their opener at the Cincinnati Bengals.
Veteran defensive backs Andrew Adams and Josh Jackson were signed in addition to outside linebacker Delontae Scott being brought back to the organization after being released as part of final cuts last week.
A safety who turns 30 next month, Adams has appeared in 87 games with 35 starts over the past six seasons for the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Part of the Super Bowl champion Bucs team for the 2020 season, Adams is known as a versatile defender who can play the nickel/slot in addition to both safety spots and as a hybrid linebacker.
The most recent time he was a full-time starter in 2019, Adams played mostly free safety. The Steelers have a need there after the preseason injury to Damontae Kazee.
Jackson is a fifth-year cornerback who started 15 games for the Green Bay Packers from 2018-20 after being a second-round pick. He appeared in only two games for the Kansas City Chiefs last season and was recently cut by the Arizona Cardinals.
Jackson has mostly been a wide cornerback over his pro career but also has played in the slot.
Scott spent much of Steelers training camp as a second-team outside linebacker, but the Steelers traded for Malik Reed and claimed Jamir Jones off waivers at the position last week. Scott appeared in one game for the Steelers last season.
