Four days before their regular-season opener, the Pittsburgh Steelers amended their practice squad by signing receiver Lance McCutcheon and linebacker Jon Rhattigan on Wednesday.

McCutcheon spent all of training camp and the preseason with the Steelers, and he was on their practice squad for four weeks midway through last season. The 6-foot-3, 202-pound McCutcheon has 10 regular-season games of NFL experience — all in 2022 with the Los Angeles Rams. The 26-year-old had five catches for 66 yards and a touchdown during the preseason and played limited snaps on special teams.

McCutcheon, in effect, takes the practice-squad spot of veteran Robert Woods, who indicated on Monday he would only remain with the team if he was on the active roster.

Rhattigan, 26, has four seasons and 52 regular-season games of NFL experience — mostly on special teams. Rhattigan (6-0, 256) has played only 20 career snaps on defense. Released by the Carolina Panthers last week, Rhattigan throughout his career has served as a “core” special teamer playing on as many as five units.

Rhattigan took the spot of guard Aiden Williams, an undrafted rookie from Division II Minnesota Duluth who spent all of camp with the Steelers.
