Defensive end Dewayne Hendrix, a two-year starter at Pitt, was one of three XFL players that the Pittsburgh Steelers signed to contracts Monday.
Along with Hendrix, safety Tyree Kinnel and linebacker/long snapper Christian Kuntz of Chartiers Valley and Duquesne were added to the Steelers’ offseason roster.
The Steelers have signed five XFL players since the league canceled the remainder of its season because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Steelers previously added defensive lineman Cavon Walker and tackle Jarron Jones.
Hendrix started at Pitt for the 2017-18 seasons. An undrafted free agent, he spent last preseason with the Miami Dolphins. He also was on the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears practice squads.
Hendrix was a member of the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks, and he had four tackles and one sack.
Kinnel played for the DC Defenders and recorded 17 tackles. He spent the 2019 training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kuntz was a long snapper for the Dallas Renegades.
