The process of reducing the roster to the 53-man limit began Monday for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they cut 11 players.
After trimming the roster by eight players before practice, they cut three more in the afternoon: kicker Matthew Wright, offensive lineman Anderson Hardy and defensive back Kyler McMichael.
In the morning, the Steelers let go defensive back Kiondre Thomas, defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer, linebacker Kyaha Tezino, offensive linemen Tyler Beach and Devery Hamilton, running back Daijun Edwards and wide receivers Jacob Copeland and T.J. Luther.
Thomas, Spencer, Tezino, McMichael and Luther were in-camp additions to the roster. Edwards was a priority free agent who was trying to take the same route to a roster spot that undrafted free agent Jaylen Warren did in 2022. He scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run in the Steelers’ loss to Houston in the preseason opener.
Wright has kicked in the NFL for the Steelers and a few other teams. He gets a chance to find work before the final roster reductions are made Tuesday.
The Steelers have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to reduce the roster to the 53-man limit.
