Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger welcomed seven puppies into his family when dog Dakota gave birth over the weekend.

Seven really must be Ben Roethlisberger’s lucky number.

For a quarterback who has carved a 16-year NFL career while wearing the No. 7, it’s fitting Roethlisberger added that many members to his household over the weekend.

No, his wife did not have septuplets. But his dog, Dakota, did.

The Roethlisbergers welcomed seven puppies when Dakota gave birth over the weekend.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback made the announcement on his official website, bigben7.com.

No word on how many pups the Roethlisbergers plan to keep. Since Roethlisberger is entering the first year of a two-year, $68 million extension, it’s safe to say he can afford to keep all of them should he choose.

Through his charity, Roethlisberger has provided support for K-9 units and service dogs. He has provided funds for police departments in cities across the country for dogs, safety vests and other kinds of support for K-9 units.

With training camp tentatively scheduled to begin in late July, Roethlisberger is preparing for his 17th season with the Steelers. He is recovering from right elbow surgery that limited his 2019 season to two games.
