Mike Tomlin on Monday gave the Pittsburgh Steelers their annual day off away from the practice fields and meeting rooms. This year, the escape was to the Topgolf in Bridgeville.
And while a number of players spoke after an organized team activity session Tuesday that it was a good team-bonding exercise, something else stood out from the outing for some.
“Oh, 97 was terrible,” receiver Ryan Switzer said, referring to the golf swing of defensive captain Cameron Heyward. “Awful. Just awful.”

But Switzer wasn’t done in his less-than-flattering assessment of Heyward’s apparent proficiency (or lack thereof) in golf. Switzer contends that Heyward is worse than notoriously-dreadful athlete golfer Charles Barkley.
“Charles isn’t on the fairway, but man, I think Cam hit the net to the right a couple times,” Switzer said. “He might have hit someone in the back. Not really sure. Pretty bad.”

Given a chance to respond, Heyward playfully fired back at 5-foot-8 Switzer.
“Switzer plays with baby clubs, so let’s calm down,” Heyward said. “Switzer, you know, he can hold my clubs when he goes to Topgolf next time.”
In previous years, Tomlin has used the final Monday of OTAs to take the team to the movies or, for example, to Dave & Buster’s. Topgolf seemed to be a pretty popular choice.
“We got to bond a little bit,” Heyward said. “…Just a good time.”
