Steelers bring back former punter Jordan Berry
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ new punter is their old one.
Jordan Berry, the team’s punter from 2015-19 was re-signed Saturday, less than two months after he was released when the Steelers signed Dustin Colquitt.
Berry will be available when the Steelers (5-0) play the Tennessee Titans (5-0) on Sunday in a matchup of the AFC’s last two undefeated teams.
The Steelers released Colquitt on Friday and did not immediately make a corresponding move to replace him on the 53-man roster. Rookie punter Corliss Waitman is on the practice squad.
The Steelers also announced Saturday running back Trey Edmunds and outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott were activated from the practice squad to play against the Titans. They immediately will return to the practice squad after the game.
Berry was brought in for a workout Monday, and his signing became official once he passed the required amount of negative covid-19 tests free agents must take before they can join a new team.
In five games with the Steelers, the 38-year-old Colquitt had the NFL’s worst net punting average (37.2). He also ranked fourth-to-last in gross average (43.1) through six weeks of the NFL season.
