Jordan Dangerfield wasn’t tendered a contract as a restricted free agent, but it turns out his tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers wasn’t quite over.
The team announced Friday they signed Dangerfield, a valuable special teams player and backup safety, to a one-year contract.
Dangerfield was one of four restricted free agents on the roster, but the Steelers declined Wednesday to offer him the lowest tender amount of $2.133 million. After spending fewer than 48 hours on the free-agent market, Dangerfield came to terms on a lesser deal.
Dangerfield, 29, had his best season in 2019 when he finished second on the team with 12 special teams tackles. He also forced a fumble.
In three seasons with the Steelers, Dangerfield has appeared in 46 games, making three starts.
