Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) is hit by Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Cassius Marsh (54) after a throw in the first half of an NFL football game in Cincinnati, Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020. Marsh, who finished the season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was signed to a one-year contract Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

Linebacker Cassius Marsh, whose three-team tour of the NFL last season ended with a brief appearance with the Steelers, returned to the organization Wednesday after signing a one-year contract.

Marsh previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts last season before the Steelers signed him from Indy’s practice squad in December. Marsh provided depth at outside linebacker and appeared in the Steelers’ penultimate game of the season against the Colts. Marsh spent the final week on the reserve/covid-19 list but returned for the Steelers’ wild-card playoff loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Listed as a defensive end, Marsh will play outside linebacker in the Steelers’ 3-4 formation. He is the only veteran player at his position on the active roster after starters T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Marsh, 28, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. He played three years in Seattle before spending time with the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals. He had a career-high 5.5 sacks with the 49ers in 2018.

Last year, Marsh played five games for the Jaguars before being given his release in October. Indianapolis signed Marsh to its practice squad and elevated him for three games. The Steelers snagged Marsh after starting outside linebacker Bud Dupree was lost to a season-ending ACL tear in early December.

The Steelers also announced the signings of offensive lineman Joe Haeg to a two-year contract and safety/special teams player Miles Killebrew to a one-year deal. Haeg and Killebrew agreed to terms after free agency began last week.

Ten players who finished the year with the Steelers remain unsigned: left tackle Alejandro Villanueva, running back James Conner, linebacker Avery Williamson, safety Jordan Dangerfield, punter Jordan Berry, outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott, safety Sean Davis, guard Danny Isidora, tackle Jerald Hawkins and quarterback Joshua Dobbs.
