Steelers’ Bud Dupree doesn't expect thumb injury to hold him back, will be ready for Patriots
The Pittsburgh Steelers leave for Charlotte, N.C. Wednesday afternoon, where they will face the Carolina Panthers Thursday night in the preseason finale.
Bud Dupree won’t suit up, but he should play in the season opener against the New England Patriots. And that’s a relief. After the outside linebacker hurt his thumb Sunday in Nashville, there was some concern.
But Dupree said the injury was just a strain, not a break, and he’ll be good to go next Sunday in Foxborough.
Dupree joined me for the podcast Wednesday, and he appears to be a player to watch this year. Dupree had two sacks against the Kansas City Chiefs in the second preseason game.
And he helped contain Titans’ quarterback Marcus Mariota on a safety that Stephon Tuitt registered in the win.

If Dupree and Tuitt can elevate their games — and stay healthy — this Steelers defense could be dynamic.
We discuss that idea, the looming Patriots opener, increased speed on defense, and improved coverage in the secondary.
