Each day of Steelers training camp, the Trib rounds up some things to pay attention to during practice at Saint Vincent:

WHAT TO WATCH

Taking it easy: The Steelers will conduct their second and final practice before they are permitted to wear pads for the first time since the end of the 2018 season. Coach Mike Tomlin is in no rush to see his players start colliding in the summer heat. “I don’t mind this,” he said Friday. “I think all of this is a very necessary part of what we’re doing here. I’m excited about getting out here and doing exactly what we did today again. We’ll be ready when it’s pad time, but I think there are certain things that come with acclimating ourselves to this environment that makes this very necessary.”

Catching on: JuJu Smith-Schuster had some nice catches on deep passes in the opening practice, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is anxious to see how the other receivers perform as the Steelers try to find a No. 2 receiver. Roethlisberger got a glimpse during OTAs and minicamp. “I know that they can catch. I know that they can play,” Roethlisberger said. “I want to see who makes the least amount of mistakes, who can get a subtle hand signal, who can interpret even visual signals, looks and things like that. That’s the part I enjoy.”

Head of the class: Before the Steelers hit the field for the second day of practice, they will honor some of their legends. The third Hall of Honor class will be revealed at 1 p.m. at the Fred Rogers Center on the Saint Vincent campus. Candidates include former players such as Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu, Dwight White and Jon Kolb, late broadcaster Myron Cope, former coach Bill Cowher and former defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. The six-member committee is led by team president Art Rooney II.

Practice time: 2:55-5 p.m., Chuck Noll Field
