Steelers coach Mike Tomlin previews matchup with Buffalo Bills
Pittsburgh Steelers fans will likely be hanging on coach Mike Tomlin’s every word during his weekly press conference Tuesday, anticipating his decision on the team’s starting quarterback for Sunday’s road matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Rookie first-round pick Kenny Pickett replaced veteran Mitch Trubisky at the start of the third quarter of Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium, but Tomlin wouldn’t commit to a starter going forward after the game.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday the Steelers are expected to stick with Pickett as the starter.
Pickett ran for two touchdowns and completed 10 of 13 attempts for 120 yards, with three interceptions, in relief of Trubisky, who was sacked three times and completed 7 of 13 passes for 84 yards with an interception as the Steelers trailed 10-6 at the half.
“We just thought we needed a spark,” Tomlin said after the game about making a switch at halftime.
The Steelers fell to 1-3 after Sunday’s loss and will face one of the top teams in the AFC on Sunday. The Bills improved to 3-1 after a 23-20 win over the Ravens.
Tomlin is answering questions about the Bills during his weekly press conference and providing an update on his team’s injured players.
