Steelers confirm 4 more candidates interviewed for GM job
Add four names to the list of candidates interviewed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to be the organization’s next general manager.
The team’s verified Twitter account revealed Friday evening that Green Bay Packers co-director of player personnel John Wojciechowski, Indianapolis Colts college scouting director Morocco Brown, Carolina Panthers assistant GM Dan Morgan and Tampa Bay Buccaneers vice president of player personnel John Spytek were interviewed “over the past two weeks.”
The Steelers are seeking the right individual to succeed Kevin Colbert, who has been atop the organization’s front office since 2000 but is retiring after the draft.
Wojciechowski, who ranks third on Duquesne’s career sacks list, got his start in the NFL with the Steelers in 1996-97. After 20 seasons as a college scout, he was promoted by the Packers in 2017 and ‘18.
Brown has worked in the NFL for more than two decades and has helped fostered some strong Colts drafts in recent years.
A former star linebacker at the University of Miami and with the Panthers, Morgan re-joined with the team that drafted him last year after more than a decade in the front offices of the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.
Spytek has worked in the NFL since 2004, the past six for the Buccaneers. He’s responsible for their free agent signings. Tampa Bay built last year’s Super Bowl champion largely by way of signed veterans.
Friday’s announcement brings the number of announced interviewed candidates by the Steelers to nine, including in-house personnel in Omar Khan and Brandon Hunt. It was also reported ESPN commentator and Pitt alumnus Louis Riddick was getting an interview with the Steelers.
