Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf spent the night in Baltimore after the team returned home following Sunday’s win at the Ravens.

Metcalf was experiencing stomach discomfort, Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten confirmed, and team medical personnel directed him to get evaluated at a Baltimore area hospital rather than board the team flight home.

“DK Metcalf was experiencing stomach pains once the team boarded the plane in Baltimore on Sunday evening,” read a statement provided by Lauten to TribLive. “The Steelers’ medical team removed him from the plane out of an abundance of caution to seek further evaluations at a nearby hospital. He remained in Baltimore overnight and is scheduled to return to Pittsburgh today.”

Metcalf did not spend the night in a hospital.

Metcalf on Sunday had his most productive game since joining the Steelers, catching seven passes for 148 yards during the victory that propelled the Steelers into sole possession of first place.

Typical of most Steelers-Ravens games, the tone was physical — four Steelers players left at various points to get evaluated for head injuries. Two others left because of other ailments.

Metcalf, though, did not leave the game and was not mentioned after as having an injury. He spoke to the media with no obvious apparent encumberment.

The Steelers met for meetings Monday but will not practice again until Thursday. They have an extra day of preparation in advance of their next game, Dec. 15 at home against the Miami Dolphins on “Monday Night Football.”

Acquired for a second-round pick in March, Metcalf is a two-time Pro Bowl honoree who signed a five-year, $150 million contract with the Steelers. His 52 catches, 753 receiving yards and six overall touchdowns lead the team (the latter, tied with two others).
