Steelers’ George Pickens unmoved by ejection for hitting Tyler Boyd late in loss to Bengals

His bank account might not agree once the NFL levies its fines later this week. But, for now, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens isn’t too concerned about his ejection late in this last Sunday’s game.

“I was really more focused on the game,” Pickens said Thursday afternoon after practice at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. I had a big game, so I don’t really pay attention to it or harp on (the ejection).”

Pickens was assessed a 15-yard penalty and was disqualified when he lunged head-first at Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd after Boyd had field an onsides kick attempt with 45 seconds left and the Bengals leading by a touchdown.

It was the third flag on Pickens this season, his first for a personal foul. A rookie, Pickens’ ejection was his first in the NFL.

The 15 yards, of course, had no effect on the game because the Bengals were two kneeldowns away from clinching a 37-30 victory regardless of field position, a point that Pickens brought up when asked if coach Mike Tomlin said anything to him about the ejection. Pickens said Tomlin did not.

“It’s really nothing. It didn’t cost us a game or anything,” Pickens said. “I could see if it was a jeopardizing position in the game or it hurt the lead or destroyed (chances for the Steelers to win) the game or was the reason we lost. No. So it really was nothing, really, that you could say.”

Typically, the following Saturday is when word leaks about fines levied by the league each week.
