The Pittsburgh Steelers are the lone NFL team remaining alive to join the 1972 Miami Dolphins with the only undefeated seasons in league history.
Per win projections set by sportsbooks, the Steelers have a relatively easy route to achieve the tough task of winning their final nine during the regular season.
The Steelers (7-0) have the NFL’s third-easiest remaining schedule, according to analysis by SportsBettingDime.com. The opponents for their nine remaining games have an average wins over/under on the betting markets of 6.833. Only the Cleveland Browns (6.825) and Las Vegas Raiders (6.82) have a worse collection of opponents yet to play.
For comparison, the Jacksonville Jaguars have the toughest remaining schedule as measured by this method at 9.48 average projected wins per remaining opponent, followed by the Atlanta Falcons (9.41) and San Francisco 49ers (8.95).
The Steelers also have the highest betting wins over/under for the season at 13.5. Among their remaining opponents expected to finish poorly are the Dallas Cowboys (4.5 betting line for projected season wins), Cincinnati Bengals (twice, 4.5), Jaguars (2.5) and Washington Football Team (4.5).
The Steelers’ other opponents down the stretch are the Buffalo Bills (over/under wins of 10.5), Baltimore Ravens (11.5), Browns (9.5) and Indianapolis Colts (9.5).
The ’72 Dolphins went 17-0, including the postseason, while claiming the Super Bowl. The only team to run the table during the regular season since is the 2007 New England Patriots, but they lost in that year’s Super Bowl.
