Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington stretches the ball for a first down during this past Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Washington on Wednesday missed the first practice of the week because of a foot injury.

Starters Darnell Washington, Alex Highsmith and Isaac Seumalo were among seven Pittsburgh Steelers who missed practice Wednesday because of injury, according to the status report.

Tight end Washington has a foot injury and outside linebacker Highsmith an ankle ailment, but neither is thought to be serious enough to threaten their chances of playing in Sunday’s upcoming game at the Los Angeles Chargers.

Seumalo, the starter at left guard, has been plagued by a pectoral injury that has forced him to leave the past two games during the fourth quarter. Seumalo, though, barely practiced last week and still played three quarters of the Steelers’ win against the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday.

Also sitting out Wednesday’s practice were safety Jabrill Peppers (quadriceps), inside linebacker Cole Holcomb (illness), receiver Scotty Miller (finger), cornerback Cory Trice (knee) and tight end Jonnu Smith (rest).

Trice remains on the injured reserve list, as does rookie quarterback Will Howard. Howard, though, began his third week of practicing fully. He must be added to the active roster by Nov. 12.

Veteran safety Chuck Clark returned to practice Wednesday after missing the Colts game because of illness. Miller, Holcomb and Peppers likewise did not play against Indianapolis.
