Sean Davis returns to Steelers practice, Terrell Edmunds added to injury report
Safety Sean Davis returned to Pittsburgh Steelers practice Wednesday, three days after he sat out the regular-season opener because of an ankle injury.
“We took a forward step today, definitely progressed,” Davis told media after the session at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “I was out there, got to be joined with the guys today, run around a little bit, test my ankle out, so looking forward to doing a little more (Thursday) in practice.”
Davis was listed as a partial practice participant on the Steelers’ official injury report. He would not commit to saying he believed he would be able to play during the home opener Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. But he did say, “I’m getting better, better than I was last week.”
Davis did not practice last week, and Kameron Kelly made his NFL debut as the starting free safety in a 33-3 loss at the New England Patriots.

While the starting free safety is on his way back, the first-team strong safety was a new add to the injury report: Terrell Edmunds was limited at practice because of a glute injury.
Of the four Pro Bowl players left during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game because of injury, cornerback Joe Haden was the only one who did not practice at all Wednesday. He has a separated shoulder.
“It’s feeling pretty good; still bothering me, but going day by day,” Haden said after the session. “It feels better every day, so we will see how that goes.”
Center Maurkice Pouncey did not practice Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury Sunday. But backup center B.J. Finney characterized Pouncey’s absence as a normal veteran’s Wednesday off day.
Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (toe) and linebacker T.J. Watt (hip) were other players who did not finish Sunday’s game. Each was listed as a partial participant on the injury report.
Running back James Conner and reserve tackle Zach Banner each was limited because of illness.
