Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner with his jersey off, posing for a photo with a fan during last year’s annual training-camp practice at Latrobe’s Memorial Stadium. Conner’s recent social-media post of his muscle-bound back gained notice.

James Conner said he used the coronavirus pandemic to his advantage in that he devoted more time to working out than he typically would have in a normal offseason without travel restrictions.

He’s provided plenty of photographic proof he isn’t lying.

But of all the bulked-up and musclebound photos that Conner shared to his verified social-media platforms, one caught the most reaction: a shot of Conner from behind in which his back and neck muscles bulge and appear to dwarf the width of his waist.

Many social-media users have compared Conner to The Incredible Hulk.

Remember shedding tears workin out because I couldn’t believe how tired I was and how much strength and energy I lost, but also tears because I was so thankful for 2nd chance & had the option to go hard... different type of feeling. Now I’m just on some healthy lifestyle vibes.. pic.twitter.com/pDqWH7jhEs

Asked about it during a video conference call with reporters Tuesday, Conner sheepishly laughed.

“It’s just the angle,” he deadpanned. “Nah, honestly, people comment on it, saying I’m going to be stiff and all this. I’m a professional. I know how to work out. It starts with genetics, but I’ve also been putting a lot of work in the weight room.

“It was the way I flexed it. A lot of people look like that.”

Later on, a reporter assured Conner that “none of the people on this phone call right now” have a back that looks like that.

Conner — the only one on the call whose video was streaming — laughed.

“I can’t see any of you,” he said.
