Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Samuels stiff-arms Denver Broncos inside linebacker Josey Jewell during a September game in Pittsburgh. Samuels has not practiced this week because of a quadriceps injury.

Mike Hilton was a full participant at Pittsburgh Steelers practice for the second straight day Thursday. Barring a late-week setback, the nickel cornerback appears well on track to make his return to the lineup after a four-game absence because of a shoulder injury.

Thursday’s practice report offered no surprises. All who were healthy and practiced fully Wednesday did so again Thursday, and all who sat out Wednesday’s practice because of injury or illness were again absent Thursday.

That group includes a pair of depth running backs: Jaylen Samuels (quadricep) and Trey Edmunds (hamstring). The expected return of rookie Anthony McFarland to the lineup after he missed last week’s game because of illness will mitigate the possible loss of Samuels and Edmunds.

The only other player to miss practice Thursday was veteran linebacker Jayrone Elliott, who has an illness.

Isaiah Buggs also practiced fully Thursday despite a minor ankle injury.

Hilton has not played since leaving the Oct. 18 win against the Cleveland Browns. Until now, he had not practiced fully on consecutive days since.

Cameron Sutton mostly had been filling in for Hilton but now can return to his regular dime spot.

The Steelers made no announcements regarding returns from the reserve/covid-19 list.
