Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell looks to throw on a fake field goal during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Boswell was placed in concussion protocol as a result of a hit he endured on the play and was limited in practice Thursday.

Three days after entering NFL concussion protocol, Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell was a limited participant at practice Thursday.

Boswell endured a hard hit after releasing the ball on a fake field goal attempt during Sunday’s win at the Cleveland Browns. He did not return to that game and is subject to league protocol. Tuesday, coach Mike Tomlin said of Boswell, “There’s nothing that alarms us in terms of the process that he’s in.”

Participating in a limited capacity at a practice four days before a game likewise does not signal anything alarming with regard to Boswell’s potential availability for Monday night’s home game against the Chicago Bears. But just in case, the Steelers signed veteran kicker Josh Lambo to their practice squad this week.

Not practicing Thursday was tight end Eric Ebron, who missed the Cleveland game because of a hamstring injury. Limited were quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (pectoral/hip), defensive lineman Cameron Heyward (ankle) and reserve interior offensive lineman B.J. Finney (back).

It is routine for Roethlisberger and Heyward, as two of the oldest players on the team, to receive time off from practice.
