Steelers latest wide receiver, Amara Darboh, poised to contribute
Earlier this week, he became the ninth wide receiver added to the Pittsburgh Steelers active roster this season. Counting the practice squad, 12 receivers have been part of the Steelers since September.
Can Amara Darboh make an impact?
“I don’t know what it’s going to be looking like for me,” the 2017 third-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks said, “so I am going to stay ready, and when they call my number, I am going to go out there and do what I can.”
Darboh is expected to be part of the Steelers’ gameplan Sunday at the New York Jets. He will become the ninth skill-position player the Steelers will use this season who was waived at some point this season.
Darboh was waived/injured by the Seahawks in August, and he spent seven weeks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before he was cut Nov. 5 and picked up by the Steelers on Nov. 18.
Like Deon Cain (three catches), Tevin Jones (four catches) and Johnny Holton (three catches), Darboh will have opportunities to make plays for the Steelers.
Darboh hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game since his rookie season. At 6-foot-2, 214 pounds and with a 4.45 time in the 40-yard dash, he’s capable of making plays. In college at Michigan, he did — amassing 151 catches for 2,062 yards and 14 touchdowns over his final three seasons.
He spent a month on the Steelers’ practice squad before his promotion (at the expense of Jones, who Wednesday was signed to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad) earlier this week.
“I like to think I showed them my work ethic and everything when I was on ‘scout’ (scout-team),” Darboh said. “I was thinking just work on my craft and trying to, one, give the defense a good look and, two, just improve. And I think I did that, and I feel comfortable here, so I am hoping I can contribute.”
