Shown during 2022 while serving as Denver Broncos wide receivers coach, Zach Azzanni was on Friday named as the new Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers coach.

The Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday made official some continued re-working of their offensive staff, announcing the hirings of Tom Arth as quarterbacks coach and Zach Azzanni as wide receivers coach. Also, the Steelers added Mateo Kambui as an offensive assistant.

Word of the additions of Arth and Azzanni leaked Thursday and leaves the known status of former quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan in limbo. Sullivan called the plays for the Steelers over the final eight games (including playoffs) of the regular season following the firing of coordinator Matt Canada.

Sullivan could be retained in a different capacity and/or under a different title. His name and bio remained on the Steelers official website through Friday afternoon despite the additions of Arth, Azzanni and Kambui. By contrast, the bio for former wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson was removed. Jackson’s contract was not renewed.

Arth spent the past two seasons as passing game specialist for the Los Angeles Chargers. A Cleveland native who set passing records at Division III John Carroll University, Arth had a brief NFL playing career as Peyton Manning’s backup with the Indianapolis Colts. He was a college head coach at three levels — including Division I FBS Akron — before joining the Chargers.

Azzanni will enter his seventh consecutive season as an NFL wide receivers coach, including last year with the New York Jets, after 18 seasons of coaching in college.

Kambui last season was an offensive line assistant under then-Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith, who last week was named new Steelers offensive coordinator.
